Indoor Air Quality in Milpitas, CA

You improve the air inside a Bay Area home by keeping dust from building up and moving around: change the HVAC filter every 1 to 3 months, keep the ducts and dryer vent clear, and keep the system maintained. Upgrade Home Services cleans air ducts and dryer vents, repairs and replaces ductwork, and installs zoning systems in Milpitas and across the South Bay.

What makes the air inside a home dusty or stale?

Most of it comes from everyday life. Dust, pollen and pet hair come in from outside or build up inside, and cooking, cleaning and laundry add more. Your heating and cooling system moves all of that air around the house, so the filter, the ducts and the dryer vent all play a part.

A clean filter catches much of the dust before it reaches the rooms. Clear ducts let air move freely, so the system doesn’t have to work as hard. A clear dryer vent sends lint and warm, damp air outside instead of letting it build up in the vent.

Which air quality service does my home need?

Start with what you notice. This table shows the most common signs and where we would look first.

Not sure which one fits? Call us and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you honestly whether a cleaning will help, or whether a simple filter change is enough.

How do ducts and zoning affect comfort in every room?

Your ducts and thermostat decide where the air actually goes. Leaky, crushed or undersized ducts lose air in the attic or crawlspace before it reaches your rooms, and they can pull in dust along the way. Duct repair or replacement seals and fixes those runs. A zoning system uses dampers in the ducts and a thermostat for each area, so a hot upstairs or a cold bedroom gets its own control. Clean, sealed ducts and good zoning work together: the air you pay to heat and cool ends up in the rooms you use.

What can I do myself to keep the air cleaner?

  • Change the filter every 1 to 3 months. Check it monthly if you have pets or have been doing projects around the house.
  • Keep vents open. Don’t close vents in unused rooms. It can upset the airflow through the whole system.
  • Clean the dryer lint filter every load. Lint that gets past it ends up in the vent.
  • Vacuum the return grilles. These are the large vents that pull air back to the system. Dust on them is normal and easy to clean.
  • Air out the house. Run the kitchen fan when cooking and open windows when painting or using strong cleaning products.
  • Test carbon monoxide detectors twice a year. This matters most in homes with a gas furnace, water heater or dryer.

How much do duct and dryer vent cleaning cost?

Air duct cleaning is $399 for up to 10 vents, plus $15 for each extra vent. Dryer vent cleaning is $130 for a standard vent and $175 for a two-story home. If we find a duct that needs repair, you get a clear price before any work begins.

I highly recommend Upgrade Home Services. Victor is fair, knowledgable, affordable, and provides very professional customer support.

Indoor air quality questions

How can I improve the air in my home?

Change the HVAC filter every 1 to 3 months, keep vents open, clean the dryer lint filter every load and air out the house when cooking or painting. Keeping the ducts, dryer vent and HVAC system clean and maintained helps too.

Should I clean my air ducts or my dryer vent first?

They solve different problems. Duct cleaning is for dust and debris inside the heating and cooling ducts. Dryer vent cleaning clears lint from the pipe that carries dryer air outside. You can book both together.

Will duct cleaning help with allergies?

We don’t make health claims. Cleaning ducts that are clogged with dust and debris removes that buildup and can improve airflow. If you have health concerns, talk with your doctor.
