Frequently Asked Heating Questions

Instead of burning fuel to heat water like a traditional furnace, a heat pump transfers warm air and processes it in a heating and cooling unit outside your home. In the winter, the system pulls outdoor air, heats it to the desired temperature, and distributes the warm air throughout a space. Some types of heat pumps called geothermal or ground-source heat pumps do this process by pulling geothermal heat from the ground instead.

What's also cool about a heat pump is that, unlike a traditional furnace, this process can be reversed to cool your home as well. In the summertime, the pump pulls warm air from the indoor air and transports it outside!

If your central AC system has to run longer to produce the same volume of heated or cooled air, that's a good indication that you're losing volume through a leak and your system is working harder to produce the same output. That usually translates to some pretty noticeable increases in your energy bills, too!
