Heating & Air Conditioning in San Jose, CA

Upgrade Home Services repairs and installs heating, air conditioning and water heaters in San Jose. Recent San Jose jobs include a full heat pump system and a heat pump water heater. San José Clean Energy, the city's own electricity provider, offers an EcoHome Rebate for those swaps as of November 2026, and the rebate must be approved before installation starts.

Which services do San Jose homeowners book most?

From a worn booster fan to a whole new system, we cover it. Start with the hub that fits your problem, or go straight to a service:

Does San José Clean Energy offer heat pump rebates?

Yes. As of November 2026, the EcoHome Rebate from San José Clean Energy (SJCE) covers two upgrades we install:

  1. A heat pump water heater that replaces a gas water heater.
  2. A heat pump heating and cooling system that replaces a gas-powered system.

SJCE is the City of San José’s electricity provider; PG&E still delivers the power over its lines. To use the rebate you must be a current SJCE customer, and your application has to be approved before installation begins. Each home can get one rebate per appliance type. SJCE also lists an interest-free payment plan and a free Go Electric Advisor service. You may qualify; call us and we’ll check which SJCE rules apply to your home and project.

What permits does San Jose require for HVAC work?

Most heating and cooling jobs in San Jose need at least an electrical permit. The city’s air conditioning and heating permit page says new or replacement equipment needs an electrical permit, and may also need a mechanical or plumbing permit. Heat pumps, furnaces, mini-splits and duct replacements are all on its list. Its water heater page adds that every water heater install or replacement needs a plumbing permit. For single-family homes and duplexes, most of these permits are issued online through SJPermits.org. We apply for them, meet the city inspector and book any HERS testing your new system needs.

What have we installed in San Jose?

Three recent San Jose jobs show the range. In one, we replaced an old AC and furnace with an Amana heat pump, moved the equipment into the attic and replaced the ductwork (full HVAC upgrade). In another, a worn-out water heater gave way to a Rheem heat pump water heater, with the connections brought up to code (heat pump water heater project). A third job restored airflow with a new booster fan and 4-inch vent pipe (booster fan project).

What do San Jose homeowners ask us?

  • “Will SJCE pay me back if I already installed the heat pump?” The rebate needs approval before work starts, so call us before you buy. We can help you line up the application with our estimate.
  • “Can you move my system to free up space?” Sometimes, yes. Our San Jose heat pump project moved the equipment into the attic. We check the space and ducts first.
  • “Do you work on gas water heaters too?” Yes. We repair, maintain and replace gas, tankless and heat pump models.
