Before & After HVAC Replacement in Palo Alto, CA
In May 2026, Upgrade Home Services replaced a furnace and AC in a Palo Alto, CA home with a new Amana heat pump. We ran a new line set, moved the outdoor unit to the back of the home, added new drain protection and enlarged supply runs for better airflow and year-round comfort.
What did the homeowner need?
The homeowner wanted to replace an existing furnace and A/C unit with one system that would improve energy efficiency, airflow and year-round comfort.
What did we remove and install?
We replaced the furnace and A/C with a new Amana heat pump, which heats and cools with the same equipment. The job included:
- A new 7/8 x 3/8 line set, the pair of copper pipes that carries refrigerant between the indoor and outdoor units.
- Relocating the outdoor unit to the back of the home for a cleaner system layout, with a line set cover over the pipes.
- A drain pan under the air handler (the indoor part of the system).
- New primary and secondary drain lines for proper drainage and system protection.
- Enlarged supply runs, the ducts that carry air to each room, to improve airflow and air distribution throughout the home.
What was the result?
The result is a cleaner, more efficient HVAC system built for reliable heating and cooling, better indoor comfort and long-term performance for the homeowner in Palo Alto.

Can you move my outdoor unit when you install a heat pump?
Yes. In this Palo Alto home we moved the outdoor unit to the back of the home for a cleaner layout and covered the new line set.
Why add a drain pan and two drain lines?
The air handler makes water as it runs. The drain pan and the new primary and secondary drain lines carry that water away and help protect the home and the system.
