When is a ductless mini-split the best choice?

A mini-split makes the most sense when adding or fixing ducts would be hard, costly or not possible. Common examples:

How does a ductless mini-split work?

A mini-split has two main parts: an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units. A small set of refrigerant lines and a wire run through a small hole in the wall to connect them. Like any heat pump, it moves heat. In winter it brings heat in from outdoors, and in summer it moves heat out. Each indoor unit has its own controls, so you can heat or cool only the rooms you are using.

1. Free in-home estimate. We look at the rooms you want to heat and cool, where the indoor and outdoor units can go, and your electrical service.
2. A clear written quote. You get a written quote with the equipment, the number of indoor units and the work included.
3. Permits. We pull the permits and handle any required HERS testing (a third-party check of the new system) for you.
4. Installation. We mount the indoor and outdoor units, run the refrigerant lines, wiring and condensate drain, and keep the line set neat.
5. Testing and walkthrough. We run each unit in heating and cooling and show you how to use the remote or app.

How do I keep a mini-split running well?

Clean filters and regular service keep a mini-split working well. Each indoor unit has washable filters. Check them every 1 to 3 months and rinse them when they look dusty.
